Bees and Pollination This Year in Oregon

This year, our Henry research farm in Oregon has enjoyed excellent visitations both from honeybees that were brought in and from wild bumblebees. Pollination has been uniquely good and the set is excellent.

One of the things we love about wild bumblebees is their efficiency and "work ethic" compared to that of traditional honeybees. They can also pollinate during cooler, damper conditions which make them a real asset in a place like Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

To help our wild pollinators out we actively develop and promote their native habitat. This includes extensive “landscaping rows” with native plants along perimeters which give the bumblebees a place to forage when blueberries are not blooming and a wildflower bed for the same reason.
